How to get stared!

Sewing may not be for every one, but it can be fun. Think about sewing buttons on a vest to give it a new look or if your like me, I save ribbons and scraps of fabric. Use those to add a little zipp to a skirt. But start of with a simple project. Go to a resale shop or even Goodwill store. You be suprised what you can fine for around 3.00 or less.

Use that as your testing ground, see what you can come with. If you are looking for ideas there some great books out there that can help. They are easy to follow and the ideas great! I have found some really good ones on Amazon.com. These books are good for teenagers and adults.

For those who want to use a sewing machine go for it, but start off with something simple. Look for a simple skirt, nothing fancy. Choose your fabric and have fun. I am sure that all of us have a sewing machine sitting some where collecting dust. Get it out, dust it off and plug it in. All that skirt needs is two seams and elastic for the waist. Once that is done you might even feel to move on to a waist band and zipper.

Remember, don't be afraid to ask for help. Still not sure where to look? Look into community groups that may get together once a month or so. Check you local library and see if there is a sewing group that may get together there. Look into the American Sewing Guild. They have chapters in every state and are always happy to pass on their sewing skills But what ever you do have fun, don't take on too much. You don't want to walk away thinking you can sew. You want to walk away saying I can sew!
